Max Bill — architect, painter, sculptor and Bauhaus student of Walter Gropius — began designing watches for Junghans in 1961. His guiding principle was unwavering: the simplest solution is always the best. The Chronoscope extends this legacy with a matt white dial of extraordinary clarity, stripped of every superfluous element. The deliberate omission of the small seconds hand creates an immediately striking symmetry between the two sub-counters at 12 and 6 o'clock. The distinctively squared Arabic numerals — the "4" famously evoking an upturned chair — and a precisely proportioned minute track complete a composition that has remained essentially unchanged, because it cannot meaningfully be improved. The chronograph function is operated via two pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock, keeping the case profile clean and entirely in keeping with the collection's ethos.
